Palmera Garden
Pacific Palisades, CA

This outdoor thriving project, located in the Pacific Palisades CA, integrates a modern design into the natural environment.
At once reminiscent of a classical amphitheater, and yet corralled into a remarkably ‘human sized’ form, a gentle stream of concrete morphismes tumble gently down towards a ravine, belying the site’s formidable 2:1 existing grade.

Designed to be a zero-carbon footprint project, this project utilizes sustainable materials such as green concrete, fire treated hem-fir decking materials, low water planting, and solar powered lighting.

Overlapping slab concrete steps guide the visitor down to this natural sanctuary, beneath the three levels of the main house, to a deck, which is situated underneath a canopy of trees at the base of the wooded ravine.
A compact bamboo grove, large boulders and low water grasses nestle the project into the hillside.

The visitor is greeted at the base of the project with concrete stadium seating, for quiet contemplation and entertaining, like something from an ancient ruin.
The push and pull of cascading rock and concrete landscape features intertwine to create a blurred relationship between natural and manmade elements.
